Victory over Thought:

When someone angers us we normally go into a whole chain of ideas beginning with anger and followed by a bout of interconnected emotions.  

There may be thoughts of revenge that initiate, which are then accompanied by the tendency to dwell on the situation and run multiple scenarios where we come out on top, we get revenge or prove to the target of the anger that we were right. The possibilities are endless, and we all know them too well.  

But what if, as the anger, or any emotion arises, we are able to see it as just a thought coming towards us with an option to respond. Responding becomes an option, not an absolute state we are compelled to follow after.  

This concept is central to most of the worldwide meditation practices and spiritual traditions, where we train ourselves to watch the thoughts and not respond, just allow them to exist and then to let them go.
